Training if you are looking for a job

West London College offers various employability programmes to give job seekers who may be unemployed, experiencing redundancy or need to retrain the skills to find work. They will be delivered through a mix of online learning and face to face teaching in a West London College.

Programmes to help you get into work

Have you been unemployed for at least 13 weeks while on benefits? Get help with finding work through the Job Entry Targeted Support scheme.

Do you have a disability or health condition? The work and health programme can support you to manage your conditions, develop your skills and start work.

Job Start programme

Job Start is a project by Ealing Mencap to help young people aged 18 to 24 with a learning or other disability in Ealing and Hounslow who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic to find another one.

Get help with your CV, looking and applying for jobs, interview preparation and speaking to employers. You will continue to be supported even after you have a job.

Career in digital and technology

Catch 22 is organising a digital edge programme to help you develop your already existing computer knowledge and skills and turn them into a career. It’s an online four-week programme of up to eight sessions that can lead to an apprenticeships or entry level job. You must:

  • Be aged 18-45
  • Not currently working or in education
  • Have access to a laptop or computer with internet access
  • Have basic level of computer skills.

Once completed you will have ongoing one-to-one employment support for up to six months.

Become a police officer

You can gain a fully-funded degree or graduate diploma as you train to become a police officer, whilst earning a competitive salary of c.£30,000 and making a difference to people’s lives. You can become a police officer through the two routes below:

  • Police constable degree apprenticeship – a fully-funded, three-year programme for non-degree holders, leading to a BSc (Hons) degree in professional policing practice
  • Degree holder entry programme – a fully-funded, two-year programme for degree holders, leading to a graduate diploma in professional policing practice.

Get into advertising, tech and media

The AD-Cademy is free, 10-week online training programme and gateway into the advertising, tech and media industries for 18-25 year olds. Discover the many roles that advertising offers and take the first step towards a meaningful, well paid career. For many entry-level roles no prior experience or degree is needed.

Created by industry experts and curated by Brixton Finishing School, the course is taught through a series of lectures, masterclasses, ‘real world’ experiences and Google online learning.

Find work with Employ Me London

Employ Me London helps young Londoners aged 16-24 who are not in education, employment or training and have a learning difficulty and/or disability get the skills they need to get paid work.

To be eligible for the programme, you must:

  • Be aged between 16 and 24
  • Live in a London borough
  • Have a learning disability, difficulty or autism
  • Not be in education, employment or training.

You will receive support for up to 13 weeks to find paid employment, training or an apprenticeship. Once you do, a job coach will continue to help you develop your skills further and settle into your new role.

Restart scheme

Ingeus, together with partners, is delivering Restart Scheme, a government initiative of up to 12 months of employment support. The scheme is designed to break down any employment barriers so you can find secure and sustainable work. You will get:

  • A dedicated advisor, you will be meeting every four weeks, to help you to access the wide range of services and support
  • 24/7 access to an online career portal
  • Further support – choose between digitally, in person, or a mix of both.

Are you ambitious, customer focused, motivated and forward thinking? Apply to become a Metroline bus driver. Full time and part time opportunities available, paying £28,000 - £36,000. You need:

  • Valid car driving licence
  • Right to work in the UK
